CEED
is an all India examination conducted by the Indian Institute
of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), on behalf of the Ministry
of Human Resources Development, Department of Education.
CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post
Graduate programs (M.Des.) at the Industrial Design Centre
(IIT Bombay) , Instrument Design and Development Centre
(IIT Delhi), Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing
(IISc Bangalore) and Design Program (IIT Kanpur ). CEED
qualifications in itself does not guarantee admission
to the above mentioned programs . Candidates also have
to fulfill other requirements such as tests & interviews
of the respective institutions for admission. CEED examination
tests the candidates for visual perception ability, drawing
skills, design aptitude and communication skills.
Objective :- Assessment of aptitude for
design, involving visual perception ability, drawing skills,
logical reasoning, creativity, and communication skills.
Eligibility
for CEED 2008: Candidates must either have completed
or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July
2008 :
- Bachelor's
degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior
Design, or equivalent

Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
-
G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional
experience

Master's degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

CEED
Exam Structure
CEED examination will the test your drawing skills
, aesthetic sensibility creativity , problem identification
ability and your approach to visual and mechanical design
. The examination tests your visual perception ability drawing
skills , design aptitude and communication skills.
It will test your ability to creatively and appropriately
solve simple design problems . Importance is given to the
following - Problem Analysis, Creativity Alternate Concepts
, Justifications for your Solutions and Visual and Textual
Presentation Skills. It will also test your skill in visualization,
creativity , design and general awareness and comprehension.
CEED
examination will consist of two parts . First part would
test your drawing, skills, aesthetic sensibility , creativity,
problem identification and your approach to visual and mechanical
design. The second part will be mainly objective type, which
will test your skills in visualization, creativity, design
and general awareness, and comprehension. For

The Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (CPDM) was
established to pursue excellence in teaching, research and
industry interaction in the area of Design. The two-year
M.Des programme is the flagship program of the Centre.

M.Des in Product Design & Engineering
Eligibility
Basic
degree in engineering / architecture. Selection for admission
is based on performance in a design aptitude test (DAT)
and interview conducted at the centre. Shortlisting for
DAT is done on the basis of applicant’s CEED or GATE
score. In case the score is not yet available at the time
of applying, the candidates can apply indicating their CEED
/ GATE registration numbers.
The DAT / interview will test the engineering knowledge;
spatial, creative, and analytical thinking ability; aesthetic
sensitivity and communicating ability; and the overall aptitude
for the design and the suitability of the candidate for
the programme.
Candidates will be given an opportunity to present their
previous design related work, if any, during the interview
Procedure
Application Forms can be obtained by any one of the following
two methods:

Send your request for application form with 2 address
slips (stickers), program to which admission is sought
along with the demand draft for Rs. 700/- for general
candidates and Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PH candidates with a
copy of the caste/PH certificate to the Deputy Registrar
(Academic), Admissions Unit, Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore 560 012. The DD must be drawn in favor of “Registrar,
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore”.
