AFD
was conceived in the year 2000. AFD is an institute run
by an Alumnus of the National Institute of
Fashion, Technology,
New Delhi. Several students had approached the founder,
of AFD over the years for
assistance in preparing for the NIFT/NID admissions. There
was a need for a comprehensive course that
could provide a clear guidance to the NIFT/NID/CEED examinations.
An urgent need was felt for a tutorial
which could impart training to secondary school students ,
such that these students could be completely
equipped for the NIFT/NID entrance exams.
Our conventional educational system, at under graduate
level, benefits only the students who wish to go in
for conventional careers (Engineering, Medical etc.),
which are getting crowded day by day. Formal
education up to 12th standard has very little to offer
to the students who wish to take design as a career. Academy
of Fashion & Design (AFD), has been launched
with an objective to fill this gap & to prepare young
students for the admission Test of CEED,
NID & NIFT, and guide them to a promising
design career.

across India. The faculty at AFD design
the curriculum and compile the
course material , based on extensive
analysis of exams of NIFT/NID/CEED
over the years and the latest developments in all the
subjects.
AFD
programs are developed by Ms.
Julie James , former Head of the department,
Department of FashionTechnology, Assumption College ,
Changanassery, with assistance from ex-NIDians & experts
from various design fields and
general subject areas. Ms. Julie graduated
from NIFT, Delhi in 1993 and has
worked in various Design & Export Houses across India
and has taught Design concepts in several reputed
colleges.
