New Centres

NID, Hyderbad: The Union minister for commerce and industry, Mr Anand Sharma announced that Hyderabad will get one of the four proposed new centres of NID. Apart from Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Madhya Pradesh too will get one NID each. The fourth institute will come up in the western part of the country. But the location has not been decided yet. The new NID centres will cover the entire spectrum of industry design education, training and research. The Hyderabad-based NID will be the only such institute in South India.

NID, Jorhat: The central government has also sanctioned NID in Jorhat.

NID, Bhopal: The process of setting up NID Campus in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has also started. The campus spread in 12 hectare, in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGTU), will foster design-technology initiative in Bhopal and help potential students of RGTU to opt design as high education career option. A one-year certificate programme on design for engineering and technology will commence during June 2010 and two-year PG programme from June 2011, from the new campus.

NIFT, Agartala: The Union Textile Ministry has proposed to set up a centre of National Institute of Fashion Technology, (NIFT) here, which is supposed to fuction from the 2010 academic year. Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran expressed his interest to set up a NIFT centre to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar recently and requested him to support the venture with the requisite building in a convenient location in the state.Maran made it clear that the institute would be awarded to the state with full Central support except primary infrastructure. The State government also accepted the proposal.

NIFT, Srinagar: National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is proposed to be set in the Industrial Estate Ompora in Badgam district. SIDCO will provide temporary accommodation for conducting the classes as well as hostel facilities to the students and faculty at Rangreth complex so that the first batch of students can start classes in 2010 session.

NIFT, Kangra: 13th National Institute of Fashion Technology in the country at Chheb in Kangra district, was inaugrated on Jan 21st, 2009 by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, and Shankersinh Vaghela, Union Minister of Textiles.

Academic programs at the Kangra Centre of NIFT has been launched on 5th August, 2009 by THIRU. DAYANIDHI MARAN with as many as five courses simultaneously. The current batch has 150 new entrants at Kangra. NIFT Kangra Centre, enjoys perhaps the most beautiful site amongst all the NIFT Centres anywhere in India.

Muscat: National Institute of Fashion Technology will soon open its branch in Muscat. It is learnt that a private college could be collaborating with NIFT in Oman.

Singapore/Bangkok: NIFT is also exploring the possibility of setting up of overseas centres, one in the UAE and the other either in Singapore /or in Malaysia in collaboration with reputed partners having an established presence and credentials in the respective regions.
